What is a postural assessment?
At Maidenhead Chiropractic Clinic, we call our postural assessment a Spinal Screen.
It is a short, 15-minute appointment with one of our GCC-registered chiropractors for people who are not sure whether chiropractic care is the right next step. You can ask questions and get a professional opinion without committing to a full consultation first.
Your chiropractor will look at how you stand, walk and move, checking your posture and gait for areas of stiffness, restriction or imbalance. It is also your chance to talk through what has been bothering you.
A Spinal Screen costs £20, and the full £20 comes off any treatment you go on to book.
Not sure if you need a chiropractor?
You don’t need to know exactly what is causing the problem before you book. That is the point of the Spinal Screen: it gives you an informed opinion before you decide whether to take things further.
You might want to book a Spinal Screen if you have:
- Persistent back pain, including sharp pain that runs down your leg
- Neck pain or headaches that seem to start at the base of your skull
- Aches or stiffness in your shoulders, hips or knees with no obvious cause
- Changes in your posture, such as rounded shoulders, a forward head position or uneven hips
- Reduced movement when bending, twisting or reaching overhead
- Numbness, tingling or weakness in your arms or legs
- A concern you would rather get checked now than leave to get worse
There is no pressure to book treatment afterwards. If we don’t think chiropractic care is the right option for you, we will tell you.
What happens during your Spinal Screen?
We start with a conversation. Your chiropractor will ask what has brought you in. That might be a specific pain, ongoing stiffness or simply a feeling that something isn’t moving as well as it should.
They will then carry out a postural and gait assessment. This usually includes a visual check of how you stand, looking at your head position, shoulder height and pelvic alignment. Your chiropractor may also ask you to make a few simple movements, such as bending, twisting or walking, so they can see how your body moves.
There may also be a gentle hands-on check of your spine and joints to look for areas of stiffness, tenderness or restriction.
At the end of the appointment, your chiropractor will explain what they have found and whether a full chiropractic consultation would be a sensible next step. The whole appointment takes around 15 minutes, and if you don’t want to book anything else, you don’t have to.
