Maybe it’s a hamstring strain from football. A sore shoulder from swimming. A knee that hasn’t felt right since your last run.
You don’t need guesswork. You need a proper assessment, a clear explanation, and a plan for getting back to your sport. That’s what a sports injury appointment is for.
At Maidenhead Chiropractic Clinic, sports injuries are assessed properly before treatment starts. Your practitioner will look at how the injury happened, how it’s affecting your movement, and what your sport or training demands from your body, then agree a course of action with you. We see people from across Berkshire, including Maidenhead, Windsor, Reading, Henley, Marlow, Twyford and the surrounding villages.

Picked up a sports injury?
Common sports injuries we see at the clinic include:
- Muscle strains and ligament sprains
- Tendon injuries, including Achilles, patellar and rotator cuff problems
- Lower back and hip pain from running, cycling or golf
- Shoulder injuries from swimming, racquet sports and gym training
- Knee pain from football, running and court sports
- Post-injury stiffness and loss of range of movement
- Rehabilitation after injury, surgery or weakness
Some injuries are simple. Some are not. That’s why we don’t start with guesswork. We start with an assessment.
Sports and rehabilitation care under one roof
This is where the clinic works differently from a single-discipline sports injury clinic. Here, chiropractic care, sports massage and rehabilitation-focused sports therapy sit under one roof.
That matters because recovery rarely fits into one neat box. You might need a sports and rehabilitation consultation first, or you might benefit from sports massage, rehab exercises, hands-on treatment, or advice on how to return to training safely. Because the team works together, your care can change as your recovery changes.
If your injury needs further investigation, we can refer for private imaging, and we can liaise with your GP or a consultant where needed.

What happens at your first sports injury appointment
Your first appointment is designed to give you clarity.
We start with the history. We ask how the injury happened, how long it has been going on, what makes it better or worse, and what you need to get back to.
Then we assess your movement. Your sports therapist carries out an assessment and decides on a course of action tailored to your needs, looking at strength, mobility, movement patterns and the area causing pain or restriction. Please attend wearing sports attire and suitable footwear, especially if you may need to use the gym.
You get a clear explanation of what your practitioner thinks is going on, the next step, and what you can do between sessions.
Then we agree the plan, built around your injury, your goals and your sport.
Which appointment should you book?
Sports and Rehabilitation Consultation. Book this if you are a new patient and want your injury assessed properly. This 60-minute appointment suits a new sports injury, pain that keeps returning during training, rehabilitation after injury or surgery, or weakness and loss of confidence in movement. Your sports therapist will assess what is going on and decide on a course of action tailored to your needs.
Sports Massage and Consultation. Book this if you are a new patient and feel sports massage may be the right starting point, but you still want your practitioner to assess what is going on first. It is not just a quick rub-down; it includes a consultation so your practitioner can understand the problem properly before treatment starts.
When to seek urgent medical attention first
Most sports injuries can be assessed in clinic. But some need urgent medical attention first. Please seek urgent help before booking with us if you have:
- A suspected fracture or visible deformity
- Inability to bear any weight on the injured area
- Significant swelling within minutes of injury
- Numbness or loss of sensation
- A head or spinal injury
